AURA

The Aura series works examine and try to harmonize the disjuncture between the private and the public or professional self, to blend the border between our outer “objective” self and our inner emotional selves.  They mimic those bright transient images you see on the inside of your eyelids, which the artist uses as a representation of a sort of blur between dream and reality, a depiction of the subconscious, the visceral, the emotional projecting onto the outer world. They do so by translating the "essence" of a moment, a feeling, a snapshot of a person into color and texture. They all feature the artist's technique “canvas kintsugi”, inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi and concept of “wabi sabi”- a sort of acceptance of, or recognition of beauty in, imperfection. The Aura series works birthed out of a reflection of the artist's own experiences in the professional world and feelings of needing to hide or code-switch.
